How do you prefer your coffee? Black? Two sugars? A double shot of cream? Regardless of your choices we at Arntully understand that you want the finest coffee experience with each cup. Arntully Plantation, tucked away in the Blue Mountains, has an extensive history of producing only the richest coffee beans. Arntully bears the name of its host community which borders the Sherwood Forrest and Moy Hall Estates. The name is widely believed to have been derived from Airntully, a village and estate in Perthshire, U.K. According to tradition, Arntully, which is located about 2 miles to the east, higher up the Stone Valley River, contained 619 acres of property, parts of which were elevated – between 3,000 and 5,500 feet above sea level. Despite its expansive layout up to 1859, only 86 acres was used for the cultivation of coffee. The remaining acreage was in woodland, provision grounds, grass and ruinate. Coffee cultivation was confined to the southern third of the plantation and was interspersed with grass and provision grounds. By 1890, Arntully totalled 924 acres, with 150 acres of coffee production. The expansion was facilitated by land purchased from Sherwood Forest Plantation, to the west. Today, there are approximately 40 aces of coffee in production with some small settlers doing subsistence farming on leased parcels of the 500 acre property. Arntully prides itself on being eco-friendly. With trails to please the ardent nature lovers. Arntully boasts a bird friendly eco-system, a ‘no cutting of trees’ mantra and is a no hunting zone. Members of the surrounding community also cultivate a part of the land in vegetables and the owners are currently pursuing rain forest certification. The success of Arntully Plantation is directly attributable to its workers, most of whom have been working on the farms for over 20 years. Over 30 pickers ensure that only the best coffee berries are harvested under the most suitable conditions.
